I am very pleased to annouce that today after 16 years of owning my 62 vin 101662 I had my first swim. This took place in lake sawyer in black diamond (near seattle). I wanted to be in the opening day of boating parade but it just was not ready. The first swim was everything I dreamed of, I thank all of you for your help and advice.

Congratulations Jim.

By the tone of your note, I am sure you'll take to it literally like a duck
to water. We acquired our 1967 Amphicar - the "Split Personality" 12
years ago. Almost anyone to whom I mentioned the car and the fact that I had
not yet taken it into the water gave me an indication of which direction they
expected it would go when I did dare to try it out and their finger was
not pointing upwards. Consequently, when 6 months later, we went to the
Antique Boat Show at what is now the Lake Dora Swim-In, my gosh, here were 3
Amphicars. I went crazy taking pictures of all 3 and telling the owners that I
had one of these at home, but had not yet taken it into the water. So it
was that I got my first ride in an Amphicar with Dave Monier and finally got
my nerve to take ours for its baptism one month before what became the 2nd
Lake Dora Swim-In. My wife, however, would not go with me the first time
in, though others photographed my brake lights as I put on the brakes while
in the water instead of putting the propellors in reverse ! That Christmas
of 1998, I sent some of the photographs I had taken to each of the 3
owners. One of them happened to live in Daytona close to where we now live. He
was so pleased with the pictures, that he went to Walgreens to have some
copies made to send to friends and by the merest chance a friend of mine who
had seen pictures of our Amphicar and who had moved and also then lived in
Daytona was in line behind this fellow, Peter Fredsall. He heard Peter
explaining what he wanted and peeked around and saw the pictures and told Peter
that a friend of his had a car just like that - in fact he had seen the
same pictures that Peter was having copied. Small world, huh ? `Only
yesterday, at a car show near Daytona, Peter had his Amphicar there with a blow up
of one of those same pictures that I had taken back in 1998 on his
windshield and I commented on what a nice picture he had ! If you saw the Amphicar
on the Speed Channel on the TV show "101 Cars You Must Drive," those were
my and Peters Amphicars. On the Speed Channel ( Where the Barrett Jackson
auctions are shown, they re-re-run the segment with the Amphicars
periodically. However, it is listed on the TV screen guides as "101 Cars" and they
list the Hummer which is one of the 5 cars featured in the same segment as
the Amphicars, but don't mention the Amphicar in the text description.

My brother is a 35 year resident of Richland 200 miles eest of Seattle in
the Tri-cities. Anyway, enjoy your toy. As I and some others often tell
people, the miles per hour and miles per gallon stats are such and such, but
the SPG rating is "over the top." (SPG being "Smiles per Gallon !")
