What is the best book(s) on AmphiCars? I was wondering how much work
is involved (and how hard nad how much $$$) in keep a car up and
running? Are parts very hard to find?

Is there a club in Toronto, Canada?

The best book on Amphicars is written by Rene Pohl (Clubmember from
Germany). It is only available in german. If you go to amphicar.net
you will find a nice bibliography put together by the Bilgemaster.

If you're looking for a "How to" on restoring the Amphicar it doesn't
exist. Billy Syx has some videos out on basic repair, Hugh Gordon is
a great source for tips (and parts) and there is a lot of experience
in this group. I know that Dave the Wave has always been helpful
with keeping my car in tip top shape. You'll find that most will
share freely the things they have learned the hard way.

There is a inverse coorelation between work and money. I don't work
on my car so it costs more money. If you get a properly done
Amphicar the routine upkeep is simple and inexpensive (Oil and
transmissions need to be changed, lots of places to greese and
inspect, keep it dry after swimming). If you're handy with metal
work, tools, paint and have the time and space you should be able to
find a restorable car in the 12K-15K range. I've seen them cheaper
but it increases the amount of sheet metal repair and paint
required. If you want something done you are likely to have 22K -30K
involved. Some may dispute these numbers but in the last year that
is what I've seen them fetching.

Hugh Gordon has most parts. There isn't yet a critical shortage.
There are some Canadian members of the Club (the club is seperate
from the list although many of us are involved with both). Hopefully
one of them will respond. If you ever get to the Chicago area (after
this winter, this weekend will be the final cruise for 2001) you are
more than welcome to a ride in my white 62.
