If you're going to have your car dipped I would suggest you dtill
about a 1 inch opening on the top of each of the frame rails so that
you can get the acid out of them. They're not talked about as being
open to water and such but they are and if acid gets in, it probably
won't get out. These openings are also good for inspecting the inside
of the rails, which probably had water in them at some time anyway. I
did an article about this little talked about problem about 3 years
ago. You might check the back issues and learn about this issue.
For what it's worth, I wouldn't dip these cars and wouldn't sand blast
them either. The best thing for cleaning off the rust and paint it
SODA BLASTING. Soda is nice because it doesn't hurt the sheet metal
and the stuff that gets stuck under the frame rails will simply
disolve and wash out rather than continue to abraid the metal the way
sand will.
