Drive shaft slip-joint grease fitting

I suspect this has been covered before, but being an Amphicar newbie,
hopefully someone will fill me in.

I removed the one drive shaft from my Amphicar to replace the slip-joint
boot. I have two questions about this:

1. The drive shaft I'm working on doesn't have a grease fitting for the slip
joint. Should I drill a hole and install a zerk fitting for the slip joint?

2. I see Gordon's sells "ribbed hose" for the slip-joint boot. I was
thinking of using the boot from a Subaru rack-and-pinion steering gear. Has
anyone else found a better substitute for this boot than Gordon's hose?

Remember that when you reassemble the slip joint that you properly align
the u-joints at both ends, otherwise, as they actually bend at 90 degree
positions and they aren't in phase, you will set yourself up for a nice
simple harmonic oscillation in the drive shafts and you will think the
resulting vibration will shake the car apart. The splines on the slip
joints will allow the shafts to be put back together in at least 2 or three
incorrect relative angles. Basically, align the u-joint crosses the same
clock position as you look down the axle...
