Door lock trouble

Looking for some advise guys. The passinger door on my 66 wont latch
fully without using the water lock. I have found that the lower
attaching screew for the lock mechanism, in the door, must have
loosened up in the past and has oblonged the mounting hole. Closing the
door results in the lock moving and not fully latching. The mounting
hole is pretty screwed up with a 3/4 inch crack running down below it.
Is this a common problem? Any ideas on how to fix it? I'm not sure that
it could be welded up without messing up the lock or mounting hole. I
imagine it has to be just right or the lock wont work. Maybe I can get
a small patch piece from someones Rusty door and have it welded in. I'd
like to make it as good as new. Any ideas?
Thanks

Craig,
That door problem should be an easy fix for an "experienced" body
shop guy. Some of those guys can fabricate anything from sheet steel.
If no parts are missing or rusted away, he should be able to stitch
up the crack and build up some weld around that former hole. Then
some careful grinding should get it back in shape.
