When a rotor goes bad it is normally caused by shorting the spark
from the coil thru the rotor to the distributor shaft. If you are
stranded with a bad rotor and no spare you can sometimes make it work
by insulating the rotor from the shaft. A piece of paper placed under
the rotor before it is pushed onto the shaft may get you started and
back to shore and/or home or the parts store to buy TWO rotors before
another failure.
