I am looking for the exact colour number or code for a red amphicar.
I would like to paint it with dupont paint.
Does anyone know the number of the paint?

Original amphicar red is a dull dark pitch. 1990 chysler is very close.
90% of Red car owners paint there cars 2000 VIPER Red. Its a very bright red, and stands out in the crowd.
of all the Red cars I have done(alot!) only one was done the darker Red.
here's a pic of mine.(white Wheels) and then one done close to orginal(red wheels, show off the WWW's better )

This is not a new issue, but maybe one without a perfect solution! The Amphicar Colour Chart at David's superb Amphicar.com web site is at http://www.amphicars.com/actcolor.htm. This subject is also on another thread here at Amphicar770: http://www.amphicar770.com/index.php?threads/original-colours.506/ where it is suggested that Mercedes Red is the answer. PaintRef.com indicates that the "Classic Regatta Red" PPG Number is 2349, and PaintRef.com says the DuPont number is 5291 (Chevrolet Corvette "Mille Miglia Red"). At the DuPont Color Chip Historical Library they show David's chart! (http://pc.dupont.com/hcl/search/ima...ta/Foreign Cars/Aro dacia/Amphicar/006030.jpg)

BASF may have made the original paint, and you can never get the precise color of the original lead-based paint. Further, paint companies make their mixes secret (I'm sure the other corporations can figure it out, but repair and restoration people are at a disadvantage [surprise]). Your local automotive paint supplier can be very helpful, though: they have on-line access to the PPG color mix database.

It's all part of the Amphicar Adventure!
