I too have a clutch shudder problem that seems to defy any amount of
work and cash I throw at it. I have decided that replacing the
pressure plate, disc, and going to the old style throwout bearing is
the last hope for me. I noticed last time I replaced the disc that
there were small cracks in the surface of the plate, but did not have
a new one at the time. I think that is the majority of the problem.
Have all parts now and need to find the time to jerk the engine,
again. Till then second gear will do. Also, first gear works fine if
i get the wheels spinning before i hit land.

Arnold, I also have registered for the lake norman show in NC in
sept. I guess i will see you there. Anybody else going?

Nice restorable car on ebay for 1500.00 in canada for all of you
amphiless people. A little rough, but I have seen worse (mine).

Chins up!

I found I could bypass my shudder problem by starting in second gear. We
had this discussion several years ago but the current solution (which
certainly makes sense) was not realized. I replaced clutch plate in my car
without making the fine adjustments described and as a result had a
shuddery clutch - now Ed has it!!!

P.S. Please note my address in the newsletter is incorrect - I am still on
Wolfe Island. Any & all visitors are welcome - bring your car, I have a
perfect lauching area in my front yard.

The only time I ever use first gear is for driving out
of the water up steep boat ramps. Otherwise, first is
pretty useless even WITHOUT the clutch shudder because
of the gearing.
