clutch problem

Interesting, it's 7:12 am, but the Yahoo page thinks it's 2:12pm.
Greenwich Mean time?

Symptom: Everthing was running fine. An increasing occurance of
clutch chatter/shudder during engagement, then grinding on engagement
until impossible to shift. This happened over a very few miles.

Reaction: #%&!@$%^! Adjusted cable to allow shifting (some
chatter/shudder still occurs), but when tightened to shiftable the
clutch will slip under load.

Question: I am resigned to pulling the motor and diagnosing the
pressure plate, but as this was a completely new buildup, is it
possible that mis-orientation of the clutch pedal bellcrank could be
a contributor? I marked it on disassembly, but the multi-generation
Xerox photos in my manual do not provide conclusive documentaion.

Thanks. For those of you in Celina, Enjoy. Wish we were there. We
plan to join you next year!

I have a few questions concerning the clutch setup.

After sitting through the winter it seemed to be a little harder to shift than I
remember. Upon closer inspection I found the clutch cable to be very hard to
move within its housing. I removed the cable a freed up this problem but after
reinstallation the pedal moves freely and the cable moves freely in relation to
how far the pedal is pushed but there doesn't seem to be much movement at the
clutch end. When I remove the cable from the lever at the bell housing, the
clutch fork I guess you would call it, moves but it doesn't seem to have much
movement at all.

My question is this, what should I be looking for in terms of movement of the
cable, clutch fork, how much tension should I be looking for.

Any other information would be of great help.
