Hi Everyone,
I need to replace the clutch and throwout bearing. I was wondering what approach I should take. Do I pull the motor or the transmission?
This is a totally restored '68Amphi I call Weird Herald. So I kinda don't want to pull the motor over the paint job again. I am asking for advice.
For some reason I tried a noncarbon throwout bearing and less than a year and no more than 450 miles it is very loud. The only good thing that I can say about this bearing is that with only a small amount of practice I have learned to play "America The Beautiful" while sitting at traffic lights.
So another clutch job, this will be the third time in 13 months. Last time I pulled the motor and was wondering if is was easier to pull the transmission.
I would drive it with the bearing howling but nowthe cluchchatters so badly only I can drive it.
HELP I NEED ADVICE. Thanks, Tommy in Tampa</font>

I have never pulled the engine but having just done the tranny I can tell you it
was not too bad. Not fun, but not awful. If I can do it....

Getting it back in was a bit of a hassle until I followed Daves advice and
lifted the engine at the rear lift point with a turnbuckle and lever. Once
engine was lifted the tranny went right in.

Sent wirelessly via BlackBerry from T-Mobile.

Tommy, Take the hood off, & all the other stuff that's in the way.

Pick the rear of the engine up just a bit. And pull the transmission
out through the rear seat area. Taking the old clutch & stuff out
through the seat area isn't that hard. The trans goes in quite easy.
I hit the spline on the first try. Why mess with the radiator & oil
cooler & wiring if you don't have to. I'd help if I was still in
Florida, but Chris & I are in Michigan where it snowed yesterday, it
snowed all night & it's snowing today. Ray
