Carburetor Rebuild Kits

After reading about the bearing price markup at NAPA, here is another half price
source for carb rebuild kits. I was going to mark these up a little myself and
resell them, but I'd rather be a source of helpfull knowledge than a sore spot.

The kit number for the original Solex carb is S0-23K.

I bought this kit about a year ago for $16. Comes with idle needle, float
shutoff valve, two base mount gaskets, bowl cover gasket, accelerator pump, and
metal washers for bowl plug and float valve.

I've also bought all the seals and bearings to rebuild a transmission over the
counter except for two pieces. The double lip seal for the axles and the needle
bearing that supports the center of the main shaft. I'm having an oil lite
bushing made for $30 dollars to replace the needle bearing. At $30 it's less
than half the price of the needle bearing and anyone can make it. The price for
bearings, bushings, seals and synchros is under $600. Think about that next time
you send in your core for a $4,000 rebuild.

Scott:

Is that SO-23K kit for a Solex B.30 ZIC (which I think is on later Amphis) or
for the Solex 28 ZIC, which is on my (sort of 1962) Amphi (uhh maybe, I haven't
cleaned the crud off enough yet to see the casting numbers). I have seen the 28
ZIC crossed to a SO-13K rebuild kit, but can't vouch for that yet.
