Hi all,

Well, I am now ready to detail all of the repairs and the successes of those
repairs now that they are complete. Usually I wind up putting time and money
into a problem only to find out that the problem is still there. Not so this
time. I have removed and boiled the radiator and wrapped the exhaust with
header wrap to help an overheating problem. This heat caused vapor lock, so
off to the parts store today for an electric fuel pump.Trying to cover all
bases, the pump when installed did not work, so back I went to get another
one. Also had the rear axle out to try to fix a bad u-joint that started
making noise on the way home from getting other things fixed last fall. I
never did find a joint, but did get an axle off ebay that got final
installation last night. Thanks to Gordons for the booties.Got it fired up
after putting on the new pump and went for a spin around the block. Started
smelling something burning and hurried back to see smoke rising out of the
bilge. Opened hood to find that the header wrap was doing what the
manufacturer said it would, smoking a bit while getting used to the heat.
So, off I went tearing up and down the hills with more power, cooler temps,
no clicking u-joint, quieter engine, top down at 70 degrees having a great
ride after hours of work. Even solved a clunking problem by removing gas
tank that was a bit loose and tightening that down. Replaced the fuse block
due to a short and electrics are bright and quick. Also pulled out wiper
motor and had a meeting with the innerds of that cause it decided to not
stop when the switch was pushed in. Had some nice success for a change, and
the car is running and driving great. Hope to get to some local shows this
spring to show it off. Busted knuckles, dirty fingernails, and smell like a
gas station, but I had a great cruise in warm spring weather. May go into
the lake tomorrow as it has risen about 20 feet. Keeping in touch, Mark
Richardson in Tennessee.

I saw a quick glimpse but thought I might have been
mistaken. Seemed like all the pictures were from past

Hello all Amphicars and Amphicar Lovers:

In beautiful Southern California, one Swim-In is just not enough, so
please add another fun floating day to your calendar and come join us.

WHEN: Saturday, May 4, 2002 10:00am to whenever!!

WHERE: Puddingstone Lake at Bonelli Park in San Dimas

This reservoir is located in a pretty and convenient setting adjacent
to the Pomona Fairgrounds, near the intersection of the 10 and 210/57
freeways. For specific directions to the park, call (909) 599-8411

There are picnic tables and facilities. Camping is available nearby,
however camping reservations tend to fill up WAY in advance, so keep
that in mind.

If you are driving your Amphicar, the cost will be $6.00 to launch.
Additional vehicles are also charged $6.00 to park. At the gate they
will ask you to prove that you have all the necessary boat safety
equipment like lifejackets, fire extinguishers, horn, etc.

Tell your friends! Come with or without an Amphicar! Have fun!

Where can we find a cross-reference part number for U-Joints that are
used on the prop shaft assembly that may not need modifications for a
perfect fit?

Also, I have tried to disassemble the propeller drive shaft from the
shaft housing for overhaul but can't seem to get it apart. The
Amphicar maintenance manual is not very clear when telling how to do
this:

"Drive the shaft out of the housing in the direction of the
propeller" and "While driving the shaft out, turn the shaft with one
hand to avoid the locking ring of the roller bearing inside ring from
sitting behind the rollers, and therefore preventing damaging the
roller bearing." Sounds pretty easy just reading it doesn't it?

Has anybody done this operation that will be able to help me out?

Subject: Re: Licence plate ideas

So mom and dad finally bought you that
Amphicar you've been begging them for?
That's great! Now what are you going to call
it? Choosing a name for your Amphicar can
be a very difficult but important task. Fear not,
as Amphipoda is here to give you some Amphi
naming tips.

Before you begin to think of a name, here are
three rules you should stick by:

Rule #1. It might seem funny to name your
Amphicar "Amphi." And if you have more than
one Amphi, it might seem hilarious to name the
first one you get "One," the second one "Two,"
the third one... well, you get the idea. These
names will seem less funny every time you
hear them until they just become annoying.
Try to be a little more creative.

Rule #2. Once you give your Amphi a name,
stick with it. For some reason, a lot of people
never call their Amphi by the name they originally
give it and even have two or three different
nicknames for it. I think this only confuses your
Amphi. If you have to give it a nickname, limit it
to one. Don't go changing your Amphi's name
every other week! If you think of a really great
name after your Amphi has already been named,
save it for your next Amphi. Or start naming
things like trees, stuffed animals, your computer,
your mermaid...

Rule #3. Don't name your Amphi anything you
wouldn't say in front of your grandma or teacher.
This means no really bad words and nothing too
horribly gross! How would you like to be called
"Exxon Valdez"? Remember, Amphis have
feelings too.

Now that we have the rules established, here are
some ideas to help you out.

Descriptive Names
These are the easiest to think up. Give your Amphi
a name inspired by its color, markings, attitude,
abilities, or resemblance to a well-known person
or inanimate object. Refrain from derogatory
names like "Anchor" and "MAYDAY" as these
can mess with your Amphi's mind and can spawn
anti-social behavior.

People Names
These are pretty easy too. Name your Amphi after
your favorite captain, actor, athlete, artist, scientist
(like Darwin, my personal favorite) or astronaut.
You can also give your Amphi a name you wish
you had instead of yours. You can give your Amphi
a first, middle and last name if you want, and call
it by it's full name when it's bad just like mom did
to you!

Cute Names
These are, well... cute. But would you like to go
through life with a name like "Mr. Snuggle
Wuggle"? Just think about that for a minute.
Sheesh. Talk about messing up an Amphi's life.
Get real. Most Amphis are good-n-cute but most
cute names aren't good for Amphi.

Funny Names
Name a blue Amphi "Rose," a white Amphi
"Darth Vader." This kind of name will seem
a lot less funny after you hear it fifty times,
so make it a really good. For example the name
"The Brown Wonder" is timeless and truly
inspirational beyond its description. Be clever,
but don't give your Amphi an inferiority complex
with some bogus half-ass pseudo-funny name.

Hints
The longer you think about it, the harder it is
going to be. You might find ten names you like
and not be able to choose. Then you will have to
go out and buy nine more Amphis! An easier
solution is to go with your first instinct or the
one that sticks in your head the most, even if it
doesn't seem like your favorite name. Your
Amphi is a unique and special creature, a real
one-of-a-kind. Give your Amphi a real one-of-a-
kind name! And lastly, allow your Amphi to
approve of the name before you go public with it.

Its a poor shot of the TV screen, but my TiVo allowed me to at least freeze

Hi all, So Amphicar used no less than four different style bilge plugs. One
is described above. On two cars I have there is a threaded plug about 1" in
dia. for some reason each plug has a smaller threaded plug in the center.
They are located on the side of the hull in the standard Amphi place. In
addition to that there is a 3/4" standard pipe thread plug located in the
lower center of the bilge, it is located in the perfect place and it drains
all the water. Hugh says in was on the earliest cars, mostly 100xxx had
these
extra plugs but they did come from the factory. The forth style is the
monster "sink you in minutes" plug, the three inch plug makes changing the
oil a little less changing but it'll sink you quick. The question, is are
there additional shapes?
I did leave the plug out for the third time with Mike in the car. It's one
of
those things memories are made of. So now I hang the plug on the steering
wheel. Tommy in Tampa in Tampa Back from a good good time in Mount Dora
