Its now November and warm out. Iam Amphicar jonesing. I promised no more
Brown Wonder cruiseing till it recieved some much needed tlc. The Brown
Wonder is sitting and patiently waiting. One thing I disliked was the
shocks were shot. So yesterday I called local auto parts and ordered up
front shocks. The Brown Wonder will have a restored front suspension,
thanks in part to the 66 that was parked 30 years ago. Later Dave the

Dave the Wave,
I, for one, hope you do NOT sell
the legendary Brown Wonder. Having
been a passenger in the Wonder I
know for a fact nobody else could
possibly provide the love and respect
you give that glorious Amphi. I
remember when she leaked from a hole
in the hull you grabbed a calk gun
and sealed her right up. That's
real love my friend. And let us not
forget the many stories that fill
these archives, tales so rich with
laughter and fun, all of which are
centered about the Brown Wonder.
I hearby urge my fellow fine finned
friends to voice their opinion and
help preserve the lengend... the
lengend of the Brown Wonder.

I vote for keeping it in the "family". It needs to either stay with Dave
or go to an enthusiast that matches Dave's personality ... if there can be
such a creature. It also needs to make the club events as I can't imagine
an event without the Brown Wonder. That car really demonstrates what it is
all about, FUN!

I can only hope this is another one of Dave's jokes, such as the one a
couple of April's ago when he traded it for a vette in a gas station. Can
anyone really imagine Dave without the Brown Wonder, or the Brown Wonder
without Dave? Just look at this years December pin up. Alright Dave,
which car give you the most real fun, the Brown Wonder or a nice shiney
restoration? Even the pretty paint job cars break down every now and then.

Why do I get the feeling I've been had? :) I'd love to attend some club
events. I bet the brown Wonder could handle the Alcan. What do you think
Dave? Or are you just torturing a poor Amphi want-a-be?)

What do you mean "Sell the BROWN WONDER", that car is in your family
now, it would be like selling one of the kids. It is so you and
nobody else would be able to drive it or look as good as you do. If
you get rid of it, what will we test our distributors parts in?

Marty

Dave,
I usually am a silent member of the egroup but this time I just have
to say a few words. Dave, what do you mean, you are going to SELL
the BROWN WONDER!!!! I can't imagine you without the famed Brown
Wonder. Having participated in the Amphi club and activities for
less than a year now (we participated in Celina this summer and yes,
we've only had our car since last August), so many of the stories we
have heard and so much of the excitement we have shared related to you
and the Brown Wonder:like spending an hour or so by the road (we know
it just can't be the rotor) this summer with all of the other Amphi
owners assisting and swapping parts and then there was the Lake Geneva
run where the Brown Wonder was delayed making the exit on the beach
(we won't say how) and the water rescue ensued.

You talk about and treat your car with so much love, it would be pure
cruelty to the Brown Wonder to sell it to some else. Also, the Brown
Wonder and your family are the epitomy of fun in the club. It is one
of the cars which shows everyone, that the cars don't have to be
pretty (and I don't mean to offend the Brown Wonder in any manner by
that statement) to be the center and source of the family's fun.
Don't sell the car, it would truly be a sad event for your family and
the club.

And yet another response to Dave The Wave and his pal The Brown
Wonder:

Maybe Dave has found some other nice and more pretty Amphi to drive,
maybe that's the reason why she may be put on the block. Is that it
Dave?

Maybe it needs a coat of clear to make the brown shine, maybe that's
all, The Shiny Brown Wonder, maybe it could use some flames painted on
front, The Shiny Brown Flaming Wonder, maybe it needs a new
distributor system complete with extra rotors, The Shiny Brown Flaming
Wonder That Runs Like New, maybe the chrome that adorns the front and
hood gets in Dave's way when driving, a phone book may help because
you can't remove all that seaworthy hardware, The Shiny Brown Flaming
Wonder That Runs Like New And Has A Tall Captain. Tell me it isn't
Marge or the kids asking you to sell. Marge wouldn't do that, we know
her better than that, The Shiny Brown Flaming Wonder That Runs Like
New And Has A Tall Captain And A Very Nice First Mate. This is
getting out of hand...You didn't get a speeding ticket in the BW and
need to sell her just to pay the judge did you?.

I'm sure I'll think of more later, this is like loosing your job at
Christmas time, I feel so bad now...Come on Dave, you've got to give
us more to go on, we're in bad shape out here.

Marty

Dave,
Check book in hand here. How much? I've never seen
the BW in real life but I have REAL Amphi Fever here.
All this "legend" behind her and I hear you have spare
distributors!

Boy oh boy, I feel like an Amphicar remake of "Its a Wonderful Life". I
never imagined that a rusted chunk and a dream could become part of so
many lives. All I wanted was to have some low cost fun with the family
before the kids got big.
Now these are the events that have led up to the posting of possible
sale of Brown Wonder.
Last year a low mile nearly rust free 66 Amphi came up for sale. I took
a loan and bought it. Then put in a lot of cash and time into it. I made
two mistakes. One is I put customer cars in front of it and missed the
best time to sell. Second I should of skipped a lot of steps and just
got it shiny. Price could be lower than.
Loans are due and Margie's work was shut down. My red 66 was put on my
other car clubs page and sure looked nice next to all the other restored
cars. I have a lot more people looking for 15k and under cars than
looking for above 20k. So all things combined contributed to the idea of
selling the Brown Wonder.
If anybody knows of someone looking for the red 66 send them over here.
The reality is something has to go. Selling Brown Wonder is not my first
choice.
On a lighter note I started thinking about brackets to hold surf board
on car with top down.

Dave, could you send me some pics? And remind me of what all you have done

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It will look fine with 20/20
vision. Thats 20 feet at 20 miles per hour. It was kind of fun doing the
marathon thing. I still need to do the front and rear sections. I may
have to break my two hour rule. As names go, I do not know. Maybe let it
return to its original name Dinky Duck. RednReady or Red Wonder do not
cut it. Later Dave the Wave. Viva Spring Valley!

Dave:

Your dilemna described far below concerning a rechristening of the BROWN
WONDER may very well be a subconscious realization on your part that there
are indeed mystical qualities embodied by the very name BROWN WONDER itself.

As one with some meager training in a number of occult crafts and who once
spent a whole week in Englewood, New Jersey voluntarily, I can assure you
that you shun the special resonances of your Amphi's long established
moniker at your and its peril. It would be far better to retain but
rearrange the name's alphabetic symbolism...as an ANAGRAM. Below are 60
various anagrams of BROWN WONDER. You must choose your own path
grasshopper, but I would call BROWN NOW RED to everyone's attention.
