Boston Bound - Look out Midwestern Amphicars!

As the calendar moves into July and hopefully (finally) some sunshine, we are in the final planning stages of a coast-to-coast journey to Tauton, MA and the spectacular August 26th Boston Swim-in! On August 2nd Amphi will be tied to the rear of our motorhome the Breeze and the journey will commence along the northern route where we plan to see family and friends along the way (Dave, John, and Doug, watch out!), including at or near:
Missoula, MT
Minneapolis, MN
Mendota/Chicago, IL
South Bend, IN
Detroit, MI
Haynesville/Dayton, OH
Harrisburg, PA
and many others.

After the festivities we'll visit some shows at Branson, MO and Lake of the Ozarks before heading NW to arrive home late September via:
Joplin, MO
Wichita, KS
Denver, CO or Casper, WY
Pocatella, ID
Yakima, WA
and more people and places in-between!

Hopefully vehicle maintenance and fuel prices will smile reasonably gently upon us throughout this 8,500 mile trek. We'll add to this thread as more details are developed and extraordinary/interesting events occur.

Gerry, Ron & Lori: we are looking forward to meeting you and seeing your niche of this glorious nation (and much enroute)!

Are you flat-towing for 8,500 miles? I thought that would be a strain on wheel seals and the transmission. What are you using for the tow-bar attachment - and will fold out to increase water speed?

Larry has tens of thousands of miles on his motorhome/amphi rig touring this country over the last decade or so. He's got to be our best Amphicar representative in the land. I'm sure he'd happy to describe his tow setup again.

Have a great trip, Larry and Nancy!

Actually we're up to about 70K miles in-tow to date, Ken, although we slowed
down a bit the last couple of years. (This year we even made the Solvang
trip by Amtrak!) This journey gives us an opportunity to get back out there
and to attend a gathering that has sounded impressive the past few years!

Wow, what enthusiasm! Thanks, Mr. Wave!!

If our "half-amphied" planning is any good this early, it looks like we
should be in the area on/about 8-12, but I won't be putting any $ down on
non-refundable reservations or anything!

Larry: I see you will be stopping in Harrisburg PA which is just across the river and only a few miles from us. Unsure of my schedule (and yours) however when you get in town, and time permitting, the steak is on me at a great local restaurant. We are also attending the Boston Swim in.

Hey Ron,

I'll be in Harrisburg, PA on July 26th and 27th, just after Celina. How do
I get in on that free steak dinner at a local restaurant? :)
