Hi everyone, Bones, I know you are familiar with the Fiberglassics web site
_http://www.fiberglassics.com/forms/forum1/_
(http://www.fiberglassics.com/forms/forum1/) It works great with the pictures
in the text. It is cool the
way you can discuss different subjects at once. And they stay together in a
thread. If the whole group would move to the top of the list when someone
posted
to it that would be as good as it gets. Tommy in Tampa

I'd love to see a forum in place of the e-mail list. I findforumsmore convenientbecause you can check in when you have time, andthey don't fill up your mailbox when you don't have time to keep up with the traffic. (I don't like the Yahoo site either)

Just for reference,I personally find this forum to have thenicest format:

http://bbs.trailersailor.com/forums/trailersailor/index.cgi

It's default organization is similar to that at the fiberglassics site, but the trailersailor site has a more polished look (if you like that kind of thing). It allows emoticons and text formatting like italics and different colors.

BUT, free is GOOD! If theAACA offer still stands, I'd sure like to see us take advantage of it.

Thanks for all you hard work John Bevins.

Tommy,

About a year or more ago the AACA generously offered us a FREE
spot on thier forum site.
http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?Cat=
(It would be in an Amphicar specific area) It allows photos, links
in the messages, NO ADS!, offers a seperate HUGE photo section,
security and the best of all is that it has about 21,026 members as
of today. This will go a long way towards educating folks about the
Amphi. The offer was declined in favor of Yahoo. I opted to not set
it up out of respect for Mike Isreal.

No offense to anyone, but the Yahoo site has too many drawbacks
and is really outdated and limited. I really think that everyone
would be happier with a modern forum site. Especially a top of the
line antique auto specific locale. I would be happy to contact my
friends there and see if the offer still stands if we can all agree
on it.

Re: Re: Bones website suggestions

This sems to come up as a topic about once a year.

Yes, we have had numerous offers for other hosting
options including team.net, aaca, etc.. Each of these
has their own unique set of strengths and weaknesses.
Some indeed have no ads but do not offer the
flexibility of receiving messages in the format of
your choice (i.e. individual email, daily digest, read
on the web site). The pros/cons debate goes on.

When this does come up each year I encourage list
members to check out the other sites mentioned. I
then indicate that if there is a strong preference to
move off of Yahoo then I will move to another format
as we did years ago from listbox. For the past 2-3
years there have usually been 1-2 folks strongly
voicing an opinion to move while the majority feels
that the Yahoo Group works well, is well known, ads
are generally unobtrusive, enables control of
spammers, etc.

So, again if there is a significant percentage of the
user community who wants to move the forum from Yahoo
I will do so. At the same time, I will not disrupt
the service of almost 400 subscribers unless there is
a truly compelling reason to do so. Also note that
pictures in messages has been turned back on, this was
intentionally turned off a couple of years ago when a
few folks with slow connections or no anti-virus
software began griping about the attachments. Fact is
that there is no one solution that will please
everyone.
