Bilge Pumps Opinions

I have always used original pumps without problems but the more I read about
everyone using different pumps or intalling a back up pump I figure it's a good
idea. It seems there has been past discussions on the pumps below as well as
several models by Rule. I prefer to intall a pump in the original position
using the existing wires and switch.
Can anyone using the pumps below give their opinions? Thanks

Mike,

I can highly recommend the Jabsco. You will find
details in the archives. In sum ...

- Very well built.
- Fits in place of original with minimal mod to the
pump bracket (no need to hack any Amphi parts).
- Low power draw (I kept blowing fuses with the repro
unit).
- Can run dry for 15 minutes without burning up.
- Very powerful water output.

I use the Jabsco connected to the original switch.
Also have an automatic RULE pump down in the bilge.

I just installed the Jabsco unit. My car has a battery tray fiberglass
patch that leaks like a sive. Call me fool hardy but on my first day of
swimming I made a seven mile run across the lake to my house. With no
boat ramp at home I left the car tied to the dock for the night. I was
a nervious idiot and got up to check it several times. The leak was
very slow when the car was not moveing. When I got up in the morning I
had about three inches of water on the floor and the Jabsco unit pumped
it down in minuts. I'm installing a back up auto unit for the summer
and will replace the rusted metal and fiberglass patch with new metal
this winter. I wired my pump up for possitive ground and used the
existing switch. Works like a charm.

OK everyone, I have ask this question on four different postings, so here we
go again. I have some original bilge pumps, the pumps are good but need
impellers. Has anyone found a source for replacement impellers for the
original style bilge pumps. Or has anyone tried and was unable to locate
replacement impellers. I just want to keep the Amphi looking as close to
factory as I can. We have concealed backup pumps hidden in the bilge so
that's not an issue. Any Ideas? Tommy in Tampa

Tommy,

I have taken your appeal and the resulting silence to heart, and will assume
that Hugh, who used to stock impellers, is now out of stock. (You DID ask
Hugh, right?).

It just happens that one of my best buddies is "Dan the Pump Sales Man",
who's probably FORGOTTEN more about any type of pump you'd care to point at
than most folks have ever or will ever learn. He memorizes parts catalogs
the way other folks do crosswords. I promise that Next time I see him I'll
bring it up...Could be a few weeks, since Dan shoved off to Baltimore.
