Bearing buddy common mistake

Complaint....brakes not working. Grease attacks rubber bits. Easy to over grease buddies.

Who cares about brakes in the water, at least they don't get rusty

Your are right. Bearing buddies work just fine but you have to be very sparing about the amount of grease you put in them. I give them about one pump per year and its worked out well for several years now without a teardown.

The real purpose of the buddies is not to grease the wheels but to allow for expansion and contraction when taking hot drums into cold water.(they have a spring system in them to do this) Amphicars should have front drums removed one a year to check for water in bearings, condition and brake operation, then repack the bearings, do not pump greese into buddies like you do a boat or RV.
