True, VARTA belonged to the Quandt group.
Hundreds forced laborers at VARTA and DWM died during World War II. The economic rise of the Quandt group is based on defence business and unscrupulous exploitation of forced laborers. Without that, there would have been no Amphicar, this should always be aware.
Oh, it gets more complicated than that. Five years ago, a German television documentary aired. "The Silence of the Quandt Family" opening what the Quandts had never liked to discuss. They were arms manufacturers and had supported the Nazi party. How free was that support? It's not clear, but they did benefit.
