I am glad to see that Egroups/Yahoo has responded to the wishes of the list
users and removed the banner ads on top of the messages!
Although I don't run this list, I did suggest its use and I felt bad when
they began putting the ads top and bottom.
We will continue to have the bottom one, but what the heck- its a free list!

Not that it was a serious annoyance, but those banners WERE a bit unsightly
right up top, especially in the "plain text mode" I favor for email, which
transformed a good chunk of those banners into unpalatable HTML soup.
Unfortunately, Yahoo! has a history of coming in and taking over already
well working services like eGroups or GeoCities with a very heavy hand,
essentially insisting on fixing what ain't broke. GeoCities users will
recall the outrage of the Yahoo! takeover there, where they essentially
tried to force every user through a required revised User Agreement to
completely relinquish all copyrights before allowing them back into their
site maintenance areas. While the requirement was eventually reversed, it
left a very bad taste...sort of like New Coke. For more details on the
whole Yahoo/GeoCities fiasco and its resolution, see

All in all though, I'd have to agree that eGroups was an excellent choice,
even given the fact that there is a fully functional Majordomo listserver
for "amphicar-lovers" installed on the Club site that we chose not to use.
It's still there, just in case we ever DO need it, but the eGroups service
does have LOTS of very nice user-friendly and easily configuarable
advantages and additional features like online photo posting that really do
make it the best choice for now. IMHO Ralph is to be commended for having
recommended it.
