Axle tunnel repair

One of my axles tunnels is in need of repair. It's really not too bad
but at some time in the past an axle must have spit a u-joint into it.
It has a spot on the very top side about two inches square that is
bulged out about a quarter inch. It's right on the end where the boot
seals. The raised lip is smoothed flat in this area. Sense it is not a
rust issue and the metal seems to be in pretty good shape I was
wondering if it could be reformed. Is there some type of roller that
could be used to form the small grove back in to that area? Seems like
that would be easier then re-welding a patch piece in there.

Thanks...
