Mike's tip below is the ticket, and everyone should know that Billy Syx's
'East Coast Amphicar' website is now hosted on the Amphicar.net server at
http://www.amphicar.net/eca/ . There one can learn more about the various
restoration videos Billy offers for sale under his 'Stuff for Sale' link,
and also find the contact info you need for that 'personal touch.' Like
that other key Amphicar-fixit luminary Hugh Gordon, Billy's not a looming
denizen of the 'online world,' or even a regular email user for that
matter...I suspect those blistering 14.4 to 22.0 Kbps dialup internet
connection speeds I witnessed there in Mays Landing may explain this. It
was like watching tree sap run.
A few months back Billy replaced both of my "70s homemade make-do" drive
axles with a couple of proper original later-style zerk-in-place units, and
also swapped out one of my worn out swing arm yoke and stub axle assemblies
as well. Basically I just watched and learned from the Master. One thing I
learned was that for it to function properly, that stub axle must be
spring-tensioned against the swing arm yoke, a tension which, according to
Billy, is more often than not fully lacking in most all of the Amphis he
gets for restoration, presumably since the swing arm yoke alone had been
removed during drive axle servicing or something, but the stub axle never
re-sprung during the re-mounting. There's another quick modification he
performs on the stub axle surfaces themselves that make any future work in
the area MUCH easier, and presumably this is more fully described in the
video.

I believe that Bily Syx has a video available detailing the whole axle
replacement process.

Anyone out there done a write up on removing the axle shafts and rear
suspension? Anyone know what size the bearing nut is?
