August/ September Wheels-n-Waves??????

Has anyone received their August/ September wheels and waves yet?:032: Just wondering if my membership renewal took effect as I havent received the last newsletter. Also, "RUSTY wheels" wont get me into the member section of the IAOC site anymore:012: Thanks, jack

I have never been able to get into our site using RUSTY / WHEELS. I tried the other night & guess what? I used my own password & username (ones that I use for other groups) & low & behold I got into our Amphicar web site. I was shocked, surprised & happy. Is it set up differently now? I'm also curious.

About the new Wheels N Waves: I don't think it went out yet as I haven't gotten mine yet either. Ina (in the Boro).

First: It is probably NOT the greatest idea to blast that password and
other privileged login information to the Club's "Members Only" section
right out over the open Internet on this or any other wide open public
forum. Now it will need to be changed to keep out the unauthorized and
unworthy. Yeah... Duh.

Second: If you're able to access a website using your personal login
info, then it's because you're probably accessing this forum's website
under www.amphicar770.com, and not the CLUB website's "Members Area"
under www.amphicar.com. They're different, you see. This forum you are
reading is not run by the International Amphicar Owners Club, as our
fearless forum moderator Mike Israel has pointed out many many times.

Third: The login for the Club website (under www.amphicar.com) is "case
sensitive". That means if you see capital letters, you type capital
letters. If you see lower case or small letter, you type small letters.
The exact password and such can be found in any recent Club
"Wheels-n-Waves" newsletter.

Lastly: Mike, could you perhaps delete the previous two postings of this
thread with that login info "in the clear" before the Google bots catch
it and make it available to our Nigerian scammer/spammer buddies?

Regards,
Bilgey

The newsletter is at the printer and should be mailed hopefully this Friday. Since there is a new format and a full 16 pages Keith had to basically start over from scratch and create a lot of new stuff. It also appears that we will go all color in the Nov / Dec W&W. The password should also be fixed shortly.

Yes, Bill, I think I did go into www.amphicar770.com. I usually click when someone sends out a picture on our e-mail & can never get into the picture with the password in our newsletter. Yes, duh!!! I know it's case sensitive AND know the difference from a capital letter & a small (baby) one. It's interesting what you wrote about the web site above not being our club web site. I was wondering why I couldn't find teck stuff as well as our car inf/vin # info as I once found on the club site. I didn't realize that there were two different ones. Maybe that's why the member password didn't work on the web site above? VERY INTERESTING, and very educational!!!!!

How are things over there in Merry Land? Ina

Greetings All,
The next W-N-W newsletter will be the Sept/Oct issue. Not Aug/Sept. No matter how late they are, I always look forward to getting them. Thanks Keith for your efforts and well wishes on your new magazine!

RE website question

The "Members only" section is not working because I believe the website had been compromised sometime in the last month or so. I know for certain sombody was playing a bit prior to July. There were a lot of graphics files that had underscores added to filenames resulting resulting in blank display markers (the red X) it was an easy fix, just time consuming. Probably the same sort of people who got in several years ago as you may recall, resultng in removal of the roster and confusion over one of Hugh's links. Typically a lone teenager in his basement not looking for anything of value like bank statements, but looking for easy targets to hone his hacking skills. Without maintenance and an experienced webmaster, it's virtually a sure bet unless you have a budget that will allow stronger security.

I hope that soon the board has somebody competent to take over for me who understands HTML editing, frontpage and Java scripting. You will do serious damage otherwise. Corruption or removal of but a single file will reduce the site to nothing.

Brian, Keith has the latest W&W issue listed as August / Oct as I proofed it at the printer Tuesday evening. The next issue will get us on track for six per year and be Nov / Dec. Your spotlight article as always is great.

We all must remember that Keith has his own magazine which he makes his living from. Like the W&W it requires a huge amount of time and effort.

Unfortunately due to some last minute changes I just sent the printer the updated membership list. Either Val or I will get them to the Post Office as soon as we have them in hand from the printer, hopefully by Saturday.
