Charles - does this Amphi-zine belong to a member of the Amphicar club? I
presume you have seen it. Could you send me a picture of it either on line or
via
snail mail and I'll pay you any costs. I would very much like to see it. Has
it been written up in any magazines? Aside from being different, is it
reasonably well proportioned and decent looking? I expect a lot of us would
be
curious to see it. Do you know the owner personally or have you talked with
him?
Hi Vic,
Yes, I have seen it, ridden in it, and driven it on land and in the water.
Unfortunately, I have not taken any photos of it, but I will try. The owner is
a
personal friend of mine, a great guy and quite an enthusiast, but extremely
private, and guarded about all of his cars, which include a large quantity of
Amphis. I am obligated to respect his wishes regarding his privacy.
The "Zine" is an interesting creation and quite unusual, although the
execution is somewhat less than one would hope for. He has installed digital
gauges,
a teak swim platform, wrap around seating in the back, and other very
unorthodox features. I do appreciate the work, but it is not my style, as I
prefer
stock original, but I understand that both of the donor cars were pretty far
gone
when he started the project.
If you saw his warehouse full of parts, you would ruin a good pair of
underwear. It is incredible. There used to be some pictures on a website
called
Amadeus. I don't know if it is still up, but Bilgey helped me find it one day.
I
think that the Amphizine was pictured there as well.

A little searching turned up:

http://www.optisci.com/amphicar.shtml

but that link is now bad. Since it was hosted by a private company,
Opti-Sciences, which is a manufacturer of oceanographic instruments, and not a
general web host, it's likely the guy is an Opti-Sciences owner or main honcho.

OTOH, from the horse's mouth, so to speak, in message #1222, we have a quote
from Amadeus: "I am an enigma! I am an enigma! I am an enigma!" Well, what can I
say; I eat plenty of roughage, so I don't really have the need for an enigma.

The real enigma must be that he an Amphi owner who is "...extremely private, and
guarded..." He must swim at midnight by the light of the new moon! <g>

Hi all. The boss is not "internet friendly", but I can forward any ride
requests or questions to him. I am on my way to the mountains for the
weekend, so I'll be brief.

The amphizine is alive and well. I did a little work on it this summer. It
has been put away for the winter. If you would like new photos, I can take
a few of it parked in the garage. I am the one that made the digital dash
for it. This beast was made from parts, and has the larger, non-stock
triumph engine, i think. I can't find any of my old photos. The
WayBackMachine thingy looks about right, that was back when I was young and
foolish. I removed the site due to nasty emails - last thing i need in my
life (then, and now) is trouble.

Swim long and leak free.

Amadeus,

I'd love to see whatever pictures of the car that you can muster up.
It looks like a fun project.

I would really like to see some photos of the customizations, especially the
digital dash. (Since all of my dash panel instruments were very badly sun and
water damaged, I have been planning to make a digital dash for the Rust Guppy.)

In the files section under the Amphizine folder, I posted 1 picture
from the Amphicar Archives CD I made available a while ago. This was
captured from the infamous "amadeus" web site a long time ago. The
Archive CD also has the other pictures of that owner's other amphicars
stacked 2 high in the warehouse, but I don't want to fill up the files
section anymore than it is.

By the way, another source other than my Archive CD is the internet
Wayback machine at <http://www.archive.org/web/web.php>

What ever happened to the Mike Ryan's Amphibious Lamborghini Countach,
the Z1A "Amphighini"?

Here's photo from an old web page thanks to the "Wayback Machine".

Anyone have any more info or updates to share?
