Amphicar Wanted

Hi Groupmembers!

I'm a new club member, and I'm searching for an Amphi of my own. So far, I
have been watching the ads, and have bid (unsuccessfully; yeah, I'm cheap)
on a couple of eBay auctions. Maybe a club member might have something for
me.

So, what am I looking for? I suppose the entry point is about $5000, for a
major (but not hopeless) project car. I can stretch that budget a bit,
depending on what's available. I know I'm not going into this at the
custom-rebuilt $25k end of the market.

I'm willing to put in the time and work, so does anyone have any offers or
leads for me? FYI, I'm in the San Diego area. Email me off-list if you
prefer.

Thanks in advance!

I had a contact from a 73 year old gentleman in Wisconsin who had
owned a Amphicar over 20 years ago. He sold it, but still has very
fond memories. He found my web page and decided he sure would like to
have another one! Since the power of the internet brought this
enthusiast back, I thought I would see if it is powerful enough to
help him out. So, if you have a spare Amphi to sell, or live in
Wisconsin and wish to do a good deed and give him a ride, please

Re: Re: Amphicar WANTED

Hi Glenn-
Really a cute car. Do you live in Louisiana? I would have to do some
deep searching, but I think I took a picture of a load of these being unloaded
from a double decker car hauler in Italy in 1961.
Do you know how much it weighs ?
You ought to come to our big Swim-In this weekend at Mount Dora, Florida
just about 20 miles north of Orlando. We'll have 15 or 20 Amphicars and a heck
of a lot of fun, as well as 15 to 20 "Woodies" (Station wagons and
convertibles, etc. from the 30's to the 50's.) All this on top of the
sponsoring show
which is an Antique Wooden Boat Club which will have 150 or more - all kinds of
old speedboats, steam powered boats, etc. The whole show is free and they
close off several streets for a craft fair, there are antique shops - an
Amphicar
parade midday Saturday (the 27th) with a mass baptism ! It may officially be
an Antique Wooden Boat Show, but believe me, the Amphicars literally "steal
the show."

Chas/Bill,
Thanks for any help you can give me in the efforts to find a starting
point. It is much appreciated. If you can drop the "mystery man" an
line and tell him I am looking and serious just give him my number:
207-594-8086 or my email: ecrover@midcoast.com
That way I won't bother him if he is not interested.
Thanks,
Mike Smith
