Amphicar Regional Events

Sure...we may be right in the middle of Winter, but Summer will be here
before you know it! This is just a quick email to ask if any of you had
hopes of hosting a regional Amphicar event this year. If so, do you have
any information that you might like me to include in the next newsletter of
the IAOC? If the event is late in the year, maybe just a date and location.
If the event is early in the year, maybe some more details and information
would be appropriate.
Please let me know in the next week or so, because the newsletter will start
printing February 15.

thanks!
Marc Schlemmer.

In Seattle we will be participating in the annual Opening Day boat parade on
May 1 (at least I will :) ).

Last year I think we had 7 Amphis show up and 5 participate in the official
parade. And, WE TOOK SECOND PLACE in our category! :) :) OK, so there were
only 3 entrants in our category, but still how often does a group of cars place
second in a boat parade?

The Opening Day parade has a theme each year. Last year it was "Off to the
Races" so we put racing stripes on our cars using blue masking tape. This year
the theme is "Games of Summer". If anyone has ideas on proper decorations,
I'd love to hear them.

While the parade, run by the Seattle Yacht Club, is highly organized, I think
it's fare to say our Amphi group is a bit less organized. The Yacht Club
requires preregistration for the parade, so if you know your comming, we'd like
to hear from you. But since we go through as a group, we can always sneak in
more Amphis at the last minute. So, even if you don't register, please feel
free to show up.

More information on the parade can be found here:

http://www.seattleyachtclub.org/OpeningDay/

While I am acting in absolutely no official capacity, if you have questions,
I will do what I can to help.

We will be holding the 4th Annual Texas Amphicar Swim-in in Austin, Texas on
April
16th, 17th & 18th. This is a free event. In the past three years we gave
"rides for
Donations" to a local area charity, but this year we will be doing something
different.

The Friday evening swim will start at the Hwy 360 bridge ramp and enter Lake
Austin,
travel down river for about 45 minutes and exit the water for dinner at the Hula
Hut,
a Mexican Restaurant on the Lake. Saturday morning we will travel by land
through
Austin's Hill County and stop off at the Spicewood Winery for a tour and wine
tasting.
From there we will travel the short distance to Lake Marble Falls and take a dip
in
the crystal clear water of the Colorado River.

Once we had our fill of the lake we will hunt for the best B-B-Q in Texas.
After
lunch will travel on land to several ramps along Lake Travis and ride the lake
down to
Austin.

If you are traveling by RV, you are more than welcome to park it in my driveway.
We
have electricity and water available. I'm getting some information on the
hotels in
the area.

Email me if you have any questions.
