Amphicar for sale Lake Constance in Europe

Hi-

Ad states car is 1961, but the wheel wells have lips. Is this possible? I assume floor and door panels come with the car, but they are not shown. Overall, a nice restoration. I hope they get their price.

That a Swiss spec Euro Amphicar. The high back was factory original for the
Swiss market. About 40 were made like that. (Switzerland has rules about
minimum freeboard of boats on the lakes). Year never means much on
Amphicars, everything was mixed up.

What does a higher boot for the waves mean? Can't be for Dave the Waves....

The King of Sweeden wanted an Amphi, but the laws required a higher freeboard at the stern ("boot" refers to the trunk in europe) than the Amphi had. (You would think maybe he of all people could have circumnavigated that!) So they raised the rear edge where the engine cover meets the stern a couple inches. You should also notice the extra lighting to also conform to regulations. I understand 3 were made like this but I can't say with 100% certainty. I don't believe it had any connection with Lake Constance. It could have easily been an early car converted later in production to meet regulations.

Is that a brake fluid container that I see under front bonnet? If it is, it sure holds a lot more fluid than mine!!!!

Ted,

That's a washer fluid tank. Look at the top down photo showing the interior. See the devise that sprays fluid between the wipers? That and the blue fluid is a give away. I have a European model that has the same set up. It also came with two round, 4", red lense Hellas mounted on the rear end. Like extra brake/parking lights. It also has red/green navigation lights on the rear of the engine cover. David Chapman told me it may be a Swiss car originally although it does not have the high back end like the French car.

Ted, not brake fluid, that's a windshield washer bottle, something all
Amphis here need by law, not factory fit but would have been dealer fit
before road registration.

Other differences, front indicators (turn signals) are not conical and are
in 2 parts, no bilge blower, no flame trap on carb. All that is factory
original.

Apart from the Swiss spec Amphi, (another on this page
http://amphicars.com/acpics.htm ) there was also a police spec Amphi - that
didn't have sheet metal differences but was substantially different from
standard. Pics here http://amphicars.com/acee.htm

Oh and a few European cars also had reclining front seats, there is a lever
on the side that you use to adjust seat back position rather than the
knurled button things, I've seen four cars now with that reclining
mechanism.
