Can you recommend a good bilge pump for the amphcar.

Thanks, Dave Wind

Dave,
Check out a FloJet. Model 4125-114. Five gallons per minute, 12 V and comes with a debris screen. This pump can be ran dry without damage. A seasoned Amphicar owner recommended this model and I am on my third year with no troubles. I also installed a back up pump under the back seat. As I recall I spent about 40 or 50 bucks on that one but the FloJet was about $180.00.
Whatever you do, don't go cheap on your primary bilge pump!

Jabsco also advertises a 20 minute run dry however after 5 years or so I notice not much water was being pumped. Even the sound of the pump changed somewhat.

The nylon impellers (all pumps regardless of brand) were starting to wear. I even put a shot of silicone or oil in every so often to help prevent impeller wear. My amphi doesn’t take much water in but the pump impeller was worn enough that it would only pull the bilge water up to the pump, but not pump it out. Installed a new nylon impeller and it is like new. Check your impellers for wear every few years. It only takes a few minutes. The nylon will eventually wear down.

Try impeller No. 6303-0003, which is an oil-resistant nitrile material. It may prolong it's life.

It's stuff like this that makes me wish we had an "Amphicar Wikipedia" or something, but it would be a huge amount of effort to set up and maintain.

Would be darn useful, though.
