There was a terrible accident here in Ottawa yesterday afternoon.
A custom built amphibious tour bus sank yesterday in the river by our
Parliament buildings. Sadly 4 people drowned. Once the vehicle started
leaking it went down very quickly and the people could not get out in time.
Something to keep in mind - ALWAYS HAVE YOUR LIFE JACKETS HANDY - ESPECIALLY
WHEN BOATING IN YOUR AMPHI WITH THE ROOF UP.
The tour bus was build by an acquaintance of mine. He has built numerous
amphibious vehicles that carry from 20 to over 40 passengers. The one that
sank yesterday was built on a Ford pickup chassis. It was the same vehicle
that sank in shallow water last year when the auto draining valves
malfunctioned. Transport Canada is investigating and in the mean time they
have grounded his fleet.
