Amphi-Ranger

If the world were kinder to my bank account (and job situation), I
would have the Amphi-ranger towing the amphicar for sure! Does anyone
have an idea of what one would be priced at if one were to become
available?

<font face="Arial" size="2">There were about 40 Amphirangers made, last time one sold in Europe it was equiv of about $100K US. They are expensive because they were expensive new. I believe there is one in South America but none in the USA. One was imported briefly about 10 years ago to California and is featured in an episode of Baywatch ! It is driven in to the Pacific and performed well. If you look closely it still has the German plates on it and I understand it was later shipped back to Germany.</font>

<font face="Arial" size="2">Amphiranger drives on the road a bit like an old RangeRover, although you might think of it as modern compared to Amphicar it is 20 years old. It has a Ford V6 engine so is quite quick. On the water in some ways it doesn't perform as well as Amphicar, it is less "Hydrodynamic" and you often get clouds of steam from the exhaust which is at the front. The best feature is you can sleep in it so can have some serious adventures !</font>

Hi Everyone,

Ten years ago, the parent firm of Amphi-Ranger contacted us during
the Baywatch filming episode. We declined North American
representation of the Amphi-Ranger for two reasons: (1) $250,000
retail per unit, and (2) Insufficient parts book for repairs. The
Amphi-Ranger is truly a magnificent Amphibian. It is faster in the
water and can handle heavier seas than Amphicar. During our test
drive in the Los Angeles harbor, an Amphicar swam with us for direct
comparison. The Ranger experience is similar to boating in an SUV.
Entering and exiting the water requires lowering and raising the
single propeller. If one forgets, the propeller scrapes the ramp of
ground, as (in marine configuration) the propeller is well below the
hull bottom. As with a traditional boat, you must keep an eye out
for shallow areas and underwater obstacles.

Contact "Amphib Belgium" and Mr. Theophile Vernelen, who stopped by
early this week. He owns both Amphicar and Ranger. The last
International Amphibious event was held in Belgium in 2004. It's
open to all Amphibians from military Ducks, Duttons, Amphicars,
Rangers, Hobby Cars, Aquadas, everything that's truly amphibous.
