Amphi on Ebay

There is a very nice Amphi on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-
cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=591900432&r=0&t=0) It say restored by
Hugh, one thing I noticed it shows a red dash (Ivory car). Is that a
factory thing? I thought that all (except late '67s) had a color
matched dash.

I looked at the car on Ebay. I look at the white ones closely since
I own one ... I've never seen one with a red painted dash. On the
other hand I do know that Hugh will do them however a customer
wants. I know people with cars from Hugh that are not the "exact"
color red for instance.

The other odd thing about that car is the statement that the the
speedometer had no odometer. Mine has one. Wonder what's up with
that.

Craig,
I'm no expert but that blue and white looks highly restorable. Did you
notice the original paint color in the tranny photo? Sea Foam Green! Oh
baby, my favorite Amphi color!
I purchased a ' 64 two years ago that appears to be in simular condition.
99.5 % complete for $2500.00. I thought that was a steal. I would have
paid more. I'm guessing that the blue and white will exceed that by at
least a couple thousand.
Did you also notice in that tranny photo what looks like a PFD, still in
it's plastic bag? Hey, a bonus! You neeeeed this car! You've been looking
for a long time. Take the plunge! I drove from Minnesota to Ohio to pick
mine up. Your in Alaska right? Kingston , Ont. I believe is near Toronto.
Yes it's farther but what the heck, most of us would do just about anything
for an Amphicar.
It's road trip time buddy. Go ahead, place your bid!

' 64 Red (Euro Amphi)

Brian, I was one of the first bidders... ;-) I'll definitely be keeping
an eye on it. I love road trips. I have a 4x4 RV that is Alcan ready
and I work two weeks on and two weeks off so it is very doable. Might
be cheeper to ship it though. But then again that wouldn't be any fun!

Am I seeing things or is the picture of the car in Berlin rear axle
some kind of a jury rigged setup?

I was just wondering the same thing. Looks like the extremely
rare "Wooden rear axel" option. Maybe it's to help level the car
while in the water? ;) I looks odd to me. Just an observation, so I
hope nobody gets upset.

Re: Re: Amphi on Ebay

Warning: I do not want any of you guys blame us Germans for the piece of
scrap offered on ebay declared to be an Amphicar in case someone should place a
bid. The car is not complete nor is the rest in good or even fair condition.
But the seller (no Amphicar Club member!) thinks he owns a goldmine with
that. After he couldn?t sell his junk here in Germany he now tries to get rid of
it at yours. So I DO NOT RECOMMEND this Berlin Amphicar (in fact its located
nearby Hamburg!).
It is restorable, but restoring costs easily will reach 15.000USD at least!
So better think twice before placing a bid!
