Aldan shocks that go "bump"

I too have had a mystery bump ever since getting my car on the road,
and also bought the Aldan shocks at the beginning. It is like a hard
clunk when topping a hill fast as if there was a loose connection in
the linkage or steering. Looked many times, pulled and shook and
replaced nearly every possible thing and still a clunk, now has my
mystery been solved? These shocks are VERY stiff. I have a hard time
getting any bounce putting weight on the front end. Turning the knob
has no effect. I only got the noise on the right side.
My 1500cc engine is almost finished at the machine shop. Dropped off
the new pin bushings today. Bored out to .020" over with new
pistons, ground and balanced crank, valve job, the works. Still
assembling parts, but going with the Weber DGV and have a set of
headers I am going to make work. May not need a muffler as they only
slow the exhaust down and create heat. Will not need the dual Webers
I found, and may sell them along with the intake and exhaust
manifolds to anybody looking for those type of parts. Hoping for 90
horsepower and gobbs of low end torque to jet me up the hills here
and allow me to drive in traffic without being a slow poke.
Got a dent in the hood from a gas can falling and Hagerty could not
have been nicer about the whole thing. I need to get an estimate,
and have the work done, but talking to them assures me about having
the proper coverage in the water, and on land.
Must go and submit my membership application to remain current in
the club. Wonder if there are any rooms left at the Holiday Inn for
Celina next year?

The first problem I had w/ an Aldan shock a few years
ago was extreme stiffness. Chasing that same noise I
(carefully) removed the spring & found that I could
barely compress the shock. A call to Aldan told me
that it should compress fairly easily and smoothly by
hand, only resisting a sharp effort that I probably
could not duplicate by hand. That's why the first one
was rebuilt.

As noted by Ed's testing, the Amphicar springs are
quite robust. You won't get the "bounce" you get on
the standard daily driver.

I'd have those shocks checked. It's a pain having the
car out-of-commission, but at least the liftetime
warranty keeps the cost down.
