Got Das Boot all cleaned up, and took it to Lake Arlington today. It had
been shut for about 5 months due to drought, then it was re-opened, and
then two weeks ago, due to heavy rain, it was closed because it
over-filled. Welcome to Texas. Anyway, with the lake so high, the ramp
was perfect for a water-wheelie. Kathy had never been in an Amphi during
one before, so I made it extra special by telling her about all the
Amphis that had sunk due to water coming in the engine compartment
during a water-wheelie. ;^)

That was fun! And to top it off, a cameraman from a local news station
was there during a filler bit about the local lakes, and caught all the
fun on tape (or digital, or film, or whatever!). Said to check out
channel 33 at 9:00 tonight. We shall see!

Gave some rides as well. One guy was really nervous, as he had never
been out in a boat before! I am quite convinced that there is nothing
more fun than an Amphicar. Nothing can beat it. I don't think even a
flying car could!

I LOVE my Amphicar but have to say that the ONE and ONLY vehicle I would trade her in on for, without hesitation, would be a Taylor Aerocar. In my collection of collectible auto "stuff" I actually have a letter from Molt Taylor that he sent to a prospective buyer in August of 1966. In this letter he offers to sell one of the factory demonstrator's, which has just been fully rebuilt, for $8,995 delivered. This is the same car pictured on the Aerocar brochures (tail # N101D).

Of course, I am pretty certain that the price of remaining Aerocars is now "sky high". Thus, finding parts is a problem i will likely never have to worry about!!

Cheers,
