A first for Amphipoda

The first swim of 2005! Glorious day
in San Diego, mid 70's, sunny, lake as
smooth as glass. I take a an elderly
couple for a swim dodging the dozens
of fisherman in boats. We see this
oar powered boat and 5 fisherman, then
one jumps over board, the others toss
him a life vest... he goes under water
briefly then flounders about yelling
"I CAN'T SWIM!!!" Another guy jumps
into the water, another life vest
follows him. This is a drinking water
resivior - NO SWIMMING ALLOWED. I
stomp on Amphi's accelerator and we
pull along side 2 guys in their mid
20's, neither can swim, (nor can the
other 3 still in the boat). We haul
them in and pick up the oar they'd
lost (which is why they jumped in the
water to begin with) and drop them
off in their boat. The elderly couple,
practically speechless in all the drama,
reckon I'm some sort of a hero. Actually,
I told them it's all part of having an
Amphicar... we do our best to keep the
lake free of debris and drowned tourists.
Anyway, the guys were fined a few hundred
bucks for swimming in the lake. All is
well that ends well. Hope the rest of
2005 is less eventful and the tourist put
their life vests on BEFORE jumping in
my drinking water.

Be well, swim safe.

Dear John: We are viewing Celina - snow covered and iced. Kinda
unfriendly. But the Festival committee welcomed Jim & I with open arms.
Marc and Elizabeth are highly respected around here, hope we can live up
to the reputation.
Exciting news. I found more hotel rooms. The Westlake Village has
fully furnished apartments that sleep 2 to 6. They are going to give us
a break on the price. I have set aside a block of 18 rooms for IAOC.
Jim and I are going to stay there in one of the smaller units. They are
really nice. The Village will become a Best Western by July.
Also, I may have a lead on RV hook-ups for people near the hot hole. A
festival member is going to arrange for us.
And New idea for photographer. Photo guy from the first group shot is
putting together a quote for a composite of all of us taken
individually. He's got a great staging idea. More later. I'm just
really excited about the meeting and the trip down here. When I get
home I'll fill in the details and put together a batch of questions that
need Board review.
Just had to share this. Gloria

Super job Gloria, I'm sure everyone appreciates your
efforts, I know we do!

We won't require hookups, but would love to put the
Breeze (motor home) and Amphi near the hot hole. Was
thinking the Eagles parking lot could be too
crowded!<grinz>
