Paul M. From Durham Ontario. brought this Red Amphicar over to me this summer to get swimming.
His father bought it New in 64 and was last plated in 1970The only visable rust was small bubbles on the Quaters.
A pinhole was found on the floor near the jack plate. Well I got it running and He took it for its first swim.He had fun with it all summer and brought it back in Oct. for a complete resto.I thought a good paint job was all it needed but after seeing my Red Amphi, he wanted it taken down and done right.
Well, the 1st thing I ran into was a lot of(rust) noise in the front hood when I took it off. I carefully removed the spot welds and seperated the front nose.Only a little bit of rust was found???hmm.I then went to dump it out and a whole bunch of small grave came out! about the size of your pinky fingernail.hmmm???Had it since new,,, kept it at the cottage on a stony beachs. 2 small brothers ,stones, no parents watching.. what to boys do?
two holes in front hood where key latch goes.Problem figured out!

There was no holes in the doors. had the media blasted and looked great.
But inside at the bottom seam was a crust of rust that blasters can not get at
You can take a door and have it acid dipped but then the acid could stay in the crevis so I decided to take them appart(remove the spot welds)
and had it reblasted.. opps, hold it up to the light and theres pin holes! and deep pockets!
The cars too good to just patch so I made new door skins,, BIG job but turn out is great!
